FAQs

What sort of vehicle and accessories do we need?

A 4WD with good ground clearance that has been serviced by a qualified mechanic before the trip.
Tyres with a minimum of 70% tread and a decent spare tyre
A UHF radio is essential for convoy communication.
A designated recovery point, correctly rated snatch strap and rated shackles are mandatory.
Two 20L fuel containers in the absence of a long-range fuel tank.

How far do we travel each day?

We try to limit the driving to 350km per day but will travel far less than that depending on track conditions
We will discuss the following days activities during happy hour, so we are all working off the same page.
We will be in camp and set up well before sunset.

What camping gear do we need?

A rooftop tent, ground tent or swag. (Check poles & pegs)
Pillows, mattress & bedding
Car fridge with adequate solar power supply
Water in suitable containers (at least 6L per person per day)
Torch and spare batteries (head torches are ideal)
Cooking equipment with spare gas.
Adequate cooking gear, cutlery and unbreakable tableware
Food storage boxes, containers, plastic wrap and plenty of foil
Lightweight folding chairs and table

What food supplies do we need?

Some canned supplies and long-life milk for contingencies. Otherwise, food that you would eat at home.
Even in remote towns, basic food supplies can be topped up when we get fuel.
Fresh fruit and snacks for the car.

There will be opportunities to visit bakeries and eat out at local pubs.

What clothing do we need?

Assorted clothing with a focus on layers for hot days and cold nights
Wet weather gear, a warm jacket and a beanie
Covered footwear for driving days
Swimmers, towel & sunhat (a fly net is useful)

What extras do we need?

Fire extinguisher & fire blanket
Insect repellent, sunscreen
Toilet paper and tissues
Antibacterial or baby wipes and antibacterial hand wash
Strong rubbish bags
Washing powder, small clothesline and pegs

What’s included in the daily rate?

All permits for National Parks and remote communities
All camping fees.
Qualified guides with experience of the routes travelled.
Detailed itineraries that can be adapted to suit track and weather conditions.

What happens if I breakdown?

While every attempt will be made to get your vehicle moving again, it may be necessary to contact and use a recovery team. We carry a satellite phone to provide contact and assistance if required.

It is strongly recommended that you check the coverage of your comprehensive vehicle insurance.

What happens if I get sick or injured?

We have a qualified first aid person with us and carry well-equipped first aid kits.

We carry a satellite phone with a list of relevant contacts and EPIRB for emergencies.
